I have a ghost in my house?

What do you do if you see a ghost, or believe you have a ghost in your house?

First thing is: Don't panic.
Secondly, ask yourself this question; "How long have I been living here?" If the answer is what would appear to be a lengthy time, then don't worry about it at all. Chances are, the ghost you see, or fear, means you no harm.

IF you have only been around the ghost for a short term (say, less than one year), then I would recommend proceeding with caution. What I mean by this is, don't try and communicate with the ghost. Don't try to agitate it without experienced help (someone such as me around).

You can do a few things to try and get the ghost to leave, if it bothers you at all. Some old trick are:

Place a pair of shoes at the foot (end area) of your bed. Place the left shoe at the right of the pair and the right foot shoe at the left. This tends to baffle the ghosts and make them leave your bedroom alone.
Place a pile of salt, or sand, on your kitchen floor. I have heard that ghosts who encounter such a pile of grains must count each grain in the pile before leaving the room. IF this is true, your ghost will be stuck in the kitchen for a long while and will stay away from other rooms.
Hang mirrors on all indoor doors and windows with the mirroring side facing outward on windows, against the door panel on interior doors. It is rumored that a ghost encountering this will "see one's self" and turn away before proceeding to enter.

Don't ask me why this stuff works... It's folklore, legends, etc... I have used the shoe trick (step 1) in the past and had great success doing so in a home of my own. If you need some outside help, let me know by email and I'll try to get someone for you in your area.

I have watched a few episodes of Celebrity Ghost Stories (from Bio Channel) on YouTube and I must say that just hearing a good ghost story is much better than watching a paranormal team for 30-60 minutes. Some are better than others but all in all, I like this type of show. What do you think of show such as this?Cheers!

Field of Screams Maryland: My Review

Just opening for their first Maryland season is Field of Screams in Olney, MD. I'll make this review simple and to the point. It sucked. 1 out of 10 stars. Don't waste your time. The 'haunted house' was a garage tuned to pitch black maze styling. Lots of actors but no lighting or prop use, really. Boring and short - and not worth the 10.00 first night admission for the one event. Stay at home or go to another attraction.

The Ghost of A Family Member

In my years I have heard of ghosts but in recent months, one story has caught my attention. It has been reported on online forums that the house of a family member in VA is haunted. I thought I saw something in the house when I was younger - but chalked it up to my imagination as a young boy. As it turns out, the house has stories from the locals that match my own experiences.I will be traveling to this location soon and my friend is going along to help to investigate the house for paranormal activity. After watching The Haunted Collector, I see that Zaffis' show was much better than I thought it would be. Is this the end for our Ghost Hunters series? Are the fans going to watch someone with 40 years of true experience? I think it was funny how Zaffis asked the spirits to tap once for YES and twice for NO instead of using the K2 Emf meters that Ghost Hunters made "famous". Those things used to be 35.00 each before they appeared on that worthless TV show...

Gettysburg Battlefield Kicks off the 2011 Ghost Hunting Season

Gettysburg Battlefield: July 30,2010

My ghost experts and I took a trip to the Gettysburg Battlefield last night in hopes of experiencing the phenomena that occurred just 2 years during the last weekend of July. We had heard the sounds of drums, chanting soldiers, guns, and cannon fire. Many visitors to the park heard it but we were hoping it would happen once more.

Sadly, nothing was heard. We ventured out to an area called Little Round Top where we found some interesting things that I hadn't seen there before.

As usual, the park police decided to show up and throw everyone out after 10pm. I took a trip back to Steinwehr Ave and visited a little shop that was still open in town. The place was the home of Gettysburg Paranormal Association - a local group of tour guides and ghost hunters. There were a few people out front awaiting their turn at the midnight ghost hunting tour. The tour was $30.00 per person and I decided against it. It was a fun evening - even though no evidence was worth sharing with you.

Let me get this straight... You are taking time to do a serious investigtion into the paranormal and you are willing to SELL TICKETS to anyone who might wish to come along? For WHAT PURPOSE???? Do these "ghost experts" offer THRILLS, CHILLS and SPINE-TINGLING EXCITEMENT? Is this a fucking amusement ride, or what?

The problem with ghost hunting groups today is this; Some sell out for monetary gain at anyone's expense - and show such little credibility in the process... Pay up, suckers. Cheers!

Mediums and Hans Holzer's Take On Effective Ghost Hunting

Hans Holzer was a famous paranormal investigator who believed that ghost hunting without a medium to aid you - was a pointless adventure. In many of his books he wrote of his adventures with mediums. Many ghost hunters don't know a true medium who can aid them in spirit communication. So where does that leave them to be effective in the field?

Why is it that ghost hunters record spirit voices, take pictures, record video, use electronic gadgets to conduct investigations - and yet will not conduct seances or use tools for communication with these spirits? It's actually quite strange when you think about it... I think it's because of one main thing; Fear stops them. Fear of the dead following them home, haunting them, causing chaos in their homes, possession, etc.

Do we dare continue to hunt for ghosts and NOT try to do anything any better than what we HAVE DONE? Shall we sit at home and watch people on TV do things the same ways that we do (or worse than we do) and not go one step further in our research efforts? Do we not use the Ouija because we are scared to let spirits, demons, etc into the homes and buildings we already are asked to investigate? I don't think that the experienced investigators are scared to attempt the use of the Ouija board. They just forgot to try it up until now. Too many ghost hunters online have warned NOT to use such things during an investigation. Why were we warned? Are they effective?

If you don't know of a medium to go along with you on an investigation, why not use a Ouija board in order to communicate? It would serve to aid in proving the existence of a named spirit - or it could help to identify the ones no one knows by name. There are many websites and books dedicated to safely using the Ouija board for communication. There are a few books written about the dangers of the Ouija board.

Dabbling In The Occult

Ghost Hunters are known to record the voices of disembodied spirits - aka EVP. Ghost Hunters and Paranormal Investigators tend to stay away from using seances, automatic writing, Ouija boards, and other tools to communicate with the dead.

Some people probably wonder why those that hunt for ghosts do not use such devices as Ouija boards. After 11 years of investigating myself, I have had thoughts on this subject. Recently, it has become apparent that merely investigating a haunting isn't enough. Why do we seek to find the spirits of those inhabiting homes, old buildings, cemeteries, etc? We do it to find evidence of a haunting - and to share that evidence with the property owners and the general public, when permitted to disclose such information afterward.

The Ouija board is a historic tool used to communicate with the deceased. The ancient Greeks used table games to communicate with the dead. Most people think of Ouijas as dating back to the 19th century - but the art of spirit communication goes back to much earlier times.

Why do we shy away from using tools of communication such as the Ouija board? Are we afraid of what lies beyond that thin veil between our world and the world of the dead? Do we not see that by ghost hunting, we are only receiving (at best using sound recording methods) one-way communications with the spirit world? Should we seek to communciate in a more powerful, two-way form of communication instead? What good are EVPs when we cannot speak to those we record? It may be time to take simple ghost hunting in a more dangerous direction. Did I say dangerous? Yes, I did. Some say that using a device for divination such as the Ouija board is a dangerous practice. It's highly possible that the spirits contacted can enter our world through the portals we open while using such a device - but here's a question for you; If spirits are haunting this world anyway, who opened these portals? Is it true that we may open portals all the time by normal actions? OR... Are "portals" a bullshit term to scare people into shying away from spirit communication?

I had a strange feeling this place was haunted. Upon moving into the house I was carrying some boxes to the attic for storing away when the door I was about to open just... opened by itself. For years I have neglected to investigate my own residences but now I have been told my house does, indeed, have a ghost. He has been called by the name of "Mr. Ashley".

The house was built in 1941 and is in an older community full of similar houses. This neighborhood had many men sent off to fight in WW2 and the basement of this house has a brass commemorative plate attached to a wall which honors those men from this neighboorhood who fought for our country at that time.

Most of the activity in this house has been witnessed for decades prior to my arrival here. Also, it seems that "Mr. Ashley" makes himself known to the women more so than the men. I haven't had but one encounter in my time here. This "ghost" likes to open and close doors, occupy bedrooms when women are alone, and several other things. "Mr. Ashley" seems to be of no concern or of any harm to anyone. I may just have to communicate with him shortly. I'll keep you posted on anything of interest. Cheers!

The Missing Tool Money Can't Buy

So many ghost hunters and investigators go out on dozens of impromptu investigations each year only to find they came up with nothing. Sometimes, they get visual evidence that astonishes them and their followers at thier websites.

The late Hans Holzer wrote a chapter in his book, The Ghost Hunter, that spoke of his beliefs on mediums and their value in the profession of paranormal investigating. Without a medium, going out to find spirits and gain evidence, or proof of their existence, is a waste of time. Rarely does someone find an apparition in a photograph or do they seem one with the naked eye - UNLESS a member of the investigating group happens to have psychic abilities. I've said before that most of us cannot SEE a ghost unless our minds are "tuned in" to a specific frequency of sorts which permits us to see them.

You can buy every electronic gadget known in this field and STILL come up without evidence unless you have that one tool in your arsenal; a medium at your side. Cheers!

"Paranormal Activity" : My Review

I watched the DVD of the theatrical release tonight. This movie had the hype of the coming of Christ - yet is sucked. It was awful. For a fictional film, it could have been stellar but it lacked the bullshit CGI that Hollywood is so famous for. I watched the doorway to the bedroom and waited for a fake demon to walk through it. Nothing happened. All that I got to see was a dummy in an over-sized shirt being tossed into the path of the camera (which never missed a beat after that hit). This movie was TOTAL CRAP and I am so f'n glad I picked it up at the Redbox and hadn't purchased it for retail. I love to collect good horror and supernatural thrillers. This one won't be seen in my collection. Cheers!

I have a DARE for you! Since it's Halloween soon and so many readers have written derogatory comments over the years about my opinions - I DARE anyone to prove to my readers , and to the world at large, that THEY have proof of the existence of ghosts, spirits, shadow people, etc.

So many people in the world have written that I am wrong about such things as shadow people, the T.A.P.S. crew (mainly, the show) and my paranormal writings in general - that I am challenging those who feel as such to step up! Bring what you have to prove that YOU are a paranormal superstar! I don't want your ramblings in writing - nor do I want your "scientific analysis" on anything either. SHOW ME THE PROOF that YOU are so further enriched with paranormal evidence that YOU can proclaim, " I am superior to The Paranormal Investigator".

I have never claimed to be a "know-it-all". This blog is my arena where I am able to write my opinions, beliefs, and post thoughts on my own paranormal research. Being that the world at large is so FULL OF investigators, someone out there (who has written a comment here before - and my readers can fully see who you are) has to accept my challenge. You have 8 days (through Oct.31st) to claim your superiority. Beyond that, you mean nothing. At that point, you are like everyone else. You are running to find better evidence.

The whole "ghost hunting" webring is getting under my skin. I've been doing this for a long time. I have rights to MY opinions and beliefs. Some like to read what I have to say and some even follow this blog in their RSS software. For someone to come around and make a negative comment, they should have more experience and more evidence than I share. I don't care if you have a Facebook page, free site, domain name, web group, myspace page - WHATEVER it may be! Just PUT UP!

The world will never believe ghosts exist as a whole. Although there are shows about ghosts and ghost hunting, I haven't seen a series on shadow people. Why is that? Maybe, because, as I said 2 years ago, they don't exist. Prove me wrong. Show what you've got to claim superiority. Again, you have 8 days to show your CURRENT evidence collection.

Ghost Stories

As I suffered the flu over the weekend, I watched some of the Travel Channel's spooky show lineup. One show, in particular, caught my attention; Ghost Stories. The narrator of this show had a voice and an attitude that made the weakest story seem interesting. I totally enjoyed the show. I watched two episodes and was anxious for more. If you like folklore, haunted regional tales, or just a good show - watch this series.

Sometimes, the "debunking", scientific crap on TV gets on my nerves. It's nice to see a show that keeps the hauntings mysterious and genuinely spooky.

The Ghostly Guarantee

About 2 months ago, I was out on a ghost hunting trip with a good friend. We were discussing electromagnetic fields and he talked about inventing something insanely unique. It got us into a whacky conversation about many techniques used in the filed and I think we invented something new to use in our research from these discussions.

Maybe We Need Not Prove a Thing

I was watching the History Channel today and came across a program titled "Haunted History". This program tells of spectres and happenings in historical houses and other buildings abroad. It occurred to me that if the History Channel tells of ghosts and spirits with such education and skill, why do we bother to prove that ghosts exist? We can prove WHERE they are, but to go out and try to PROVE they exist is , quite obviously, unnecessary. It is quite interesting how the History Channel gives credence to ghosts - when so many in society do not. Just a thought...

I get comments on some of my postings and I cannot help but feel badly for creating such "negative" writings at times. So, to you, my great friends, here is something refreshing that shouldn't get anyone into a state of ruffled feathers...

It has been 15 years since I started using the internet on a daily basis. Since then, there have been thousands of new websites created and devoted to ghost hunting. In the past several years, the amount of fraudulent evidence has surely minimized thus creating better search results for those looking to find real evidence, real investigators, and real proof of the paranormal activity in the world.

It used to be hard to find evidence online. You had to sift through orbs and fake shit everywhere to find ANYTHING cool or worthwhile. Thanks to YOU for abandoning the crap - and looking for truth. I think that the next several years will take ghost hunting into new territories, new ways of proving life after death, and offer new insight into communications with other dimensions which are, obviously, in parallel to our own.

Horrorfind Weekend 11: Upon further review

If you're a fan of horror movies and you live near Baltimore, you usually attend the horror convention known as "Horrorfind Weekend". I've been to many of these conventions and I always walk away disappointed in something. The admission per adult (and those over 10 yrs old) is $25.00 and kids under 10 are half price. Think for a moment... who wants to pay to take a kid under 10 to one of these things when most kids are too antsy to allow an adult to enjoy much of anything?

I've always went to the convention with aspirations of getting some celebrity autographs (most on my own items from my collection) and buying a few pieces of horror merchandise. Yesterday, I didn't buy a damned thing and I'll tell you why that is.

I arrived around 5pm. The admission for 4 was a turnoff. Anyone arriving at 5pm wouldn't get to meet the various celebrities in attendance because most all of them took off and went to their hotel rooms by 5pm. The vendors had the usual fare for sale - but nothing of real value (as far as I was concerned, anyway).

What gets me really pissed (when I think about it) is this: Do you pay to enter a shopping mall? They have thousands of items for sale and the retailers pay insane rentals for the store space - but they don't charge you for coming in to "browse" for what you may want to take home. YET HORRORFIND and OTHER CONVENTIONS DO! MOST OF WHAT THEY REALLY OFFER IS MERCHANDISE FOR SALE! SURE! You can PAY to meet a celebrity and take home an autographed photo BUT should you have to PAY $100.00 to ADMIT 4 people to do THAT?

The reasons we attend horror conventions is to meet the celebrities and HOPEFULLY have a good time. THE MOVIES that these people acted in are the only reason we know about them in the first place! HORROR MOVIES are the thing we love! We don't respect a prick (or bitch) who just collects money for an autograph and BLOWS YOU OFF for the next BUCK.

As horror movies turn to shit around Hollywood, so do horror conventions. It seems everyone is out to make a quick buck by "stepping on" the average citizen in this world - and HORRORFIND is no different. Fuck conventions and to hell with Rob Zombie's shitty remakes of great John Carpenter HALLOWEEN classics.

You have wondered why some people allow their small children to watch old horror movies such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Halloween, Romero's zombie flicks, etc... Why would anyone let their child watch such movies? Here's my honest answer...

I allowed my kids to watch horror movies back when they were young. They turned out just fine. They aren't evil, they don't play with knives or use machetes to sever the heads from the neighbors. I let them watch classic horror films because I wanted for them to experience WHAT HALLOWEEN WAS LIKE in the GOOD OL' DAYS!

How can a child know what Halloween is all about when they don't get the meaning of the holiday? What's Halloween without movie monsters, fear of the dark, or the classic costumes of Dracula, Frankenstein, and other fictional monster creatures?

People nowadays are too POLITICALLY CORRECT in raising their children. Parents of today have deprived their children of simple pleasures such as SCARY HALLOWEEN nights, dressing up in costumes to attend school on October 31st, and having Jack 'o Lanterns on their porches to scare away evil spirits.

Kids today think of Jack 'o Lanterns as cute, smiling things. No kid makes a costume at home today. Parents take kids to Walmart for a crummy Spider Man costume or some cute fairy princess outfit. GAY!

And what happened to Nestle's Peanut Butter Coffins candy?

Halloween and monsters are a part of growing up. Not only do scary movies make kids fear the darkness - but they teach kids that the current world CAN BE dangerous, evil, and worse than television. THAT, my friends, is truth that cannot be hidden from children for long. Think of 9/11/01 and tell me I'm wrong.

In recent years, many have taken to the practice of ghost hunting for fun - and even for profit. I have never done it for money however there are those that run groups that are basically intended to create income. That's another topic, entirely!

Tonight's topic is the evolution of what we know as "ghost hunting". We have used dozens, if not hundreds of devices to capture and distribute evidence of ghosts and spirits. The big question is; What will come next? Is there anyone who has perfected a device that can speak to the dead? I read about the Spiricom device and heard many people talk about it on late-night radio shows such as Coast2Coast. I believe that it is impossible to PROVE the TRUE existence of ghosts to the masses UNTIL such a device is perfected. Imagine being able to offer an unbeliever the ability to have a conversation with a deceased relative... wouldn't THAT prove that ghosts truly exist? I think that such a device would be the final tool in proving that there IS, indeed, life after death.

Man, Know Thyself

One of the greatest of all admonitions is "Man, know thyself". It is
quite true that I have dedicated years of time to the pursuit of
evidence of the afterlife. I had a thought a short while ago that I
thought would be worth sharing. Some may agree with me and there are
others that will not. Anyway, here goes!

Some people love Halloween. They are infatuated with all things
creepy and haunting. They seek the local "haunted houses" so they may
enjoy the season with all they can afford to do in public. I am one
of these people, or so I used to be. I am not quite sure of that -
but I do know this; There are many people who have the following
attitude...

**HEY! Do you have a haunting? PLEASE, let me come over so I can see
it in action!***

This is the subconscious attitude of many a ghost hunter. They aren't
out to help the homeowner with the haunting. They are merely looking
for a FREE THRILL. They live for Halloween, haunted house scares,
pranks, things that go bump in the night, movie monsters, etc. The
sad, but true, fact is this: There are those who are serious about
informing homeowners about the facts regarding hauntings. THEN, there
are those who simply don't know a damned thing and refuse to give a
shit for the homeowner's concerns. Of all the ghost hunters out
there, I would almost guarantee that 90% of them fall into the
"Halloween" category.

Now I wish to share my experiences with you about this thought. I
have conducted dozens of private investigations for homeowners I
never met before arriving to the home in question. During each of
these outings I would do my best to not only find the source of the
haunting in question - but I would do as much research on the source
of the haunting as humanly possible. In addition to those efforts, I
would also take time to educate the homeowner about their situation
and how to deal with it in a comfortable manner. It is truly
irresponsible to invade the home of a complete stranger and NOT be
professional and thorough. The practice and profession of Ghost
Hunting is continually destroyed by "punks" who ACT as if they have
knowledge of hauntings or ghosts in general. These same folks buy
every f'n gizmo on planet Earth and confuse the shit out of people.
They go into homes and buildings to find evidence - yet they OVERLOOK
every detail of the haunting and it's history in order to 'play
around' with shit they have no business meddling with.

To spot these characters is easy. I won't even describe how to do it.
Take a look at how much junk they carry versus how much time they
spend collecting interviews before walking into the supposed haunted
area. Think about it! Have you ever watched Law & Order? They never
accuse a perpetrator without being told something beforehand to
assume guilt. Why would anyone assume a house to be haunted without
interviewing witnesses before investigating "the scene of the crime"?

I beg you, detest the acts of fools and take it upon yourselves to do
a good job when investigating any property. Collect interviews, do
newspaper fact finding, property research, deed research, and
everything you can to insure that you have done your best to get to
the source of the supposed haunting before entering with any equipment.

As far as Halloween goes, I love the season as much as the kids do -
but I don't combine the thrill of a scare with paranormal research in
any way. I don't fear ghosts and I surely don't get scared from
horror films. The worlds of fantasy and reality are clearly divided
in my mind. It is the thousands of others out there that I question.

No more gadgets and tools for sale and a sad goodbye to Hans Holzer

I've decided it's time to stop offering ghost hunting tools for sale
online. As of late, I have had nothing but complaints regarding
delivery times and other things related to my distributor's errors. I
have posted my thoughts and opinions about the usage of electronic
"gadgets" and it has come time to shift gears and get out of the
retail/wholesale gadget business. It sickens me to have my name
discredited due to others involved in the industry who cannot be
trusted to deliver quality merchandise on time , or in perfect
condition.

Hans Holzer passed away in late April. I read many of his books. Most
of his books had extremely interesting writings - especially the
introductions! It is sad to see such a purist pass on before gaining
his true commercial recognition. He will be missed.

On that note, it is up to US (the true investigators) to carry on his
tradition. Are we ready to follow in the footsteps of greatness? Can
we shun the gizmos and gadgets in order to establish true credibility
in the field of investigating? I intend to give it my best shot. Now
I can get along with less batteries and lighten my toolbox.

The Sad Truth: Plastic Breaks - Ghost Hunting History Revealed

I stumbled across an article on the history of ghost hunting. The article made me think about what it is WE do, today.

Pondering this in-depth history, I think of many things. For one, our ancestors had the capacity to spend FAR MORE time in the field of actual research than we do today. In the old days, men and women could easily choose to gather amongst each other for hours, days, nights and weeks to further study hauntings and other phenomenon. Today, we are so caught up in trading currency, working a 40-hour week, checking our social networks, email and text messaging, telephones, television, etc... and we could never match the dedication aspired to by our forefathers when considering paranormal research efforts. Is this a challenge to us all? No. It isn't.

We cannot imagine what processes were used in the days of old to study paranormal phenomena. Today, too many of us rely on gadgets and gizmos to conduct what some call "scientific research". When we rely on battery operated devices to guide us in our efforts, it is important to know exactly what the device held in our hands was originally invented to do. Are you guilty of using a "cell sensor" as an EMF meter for electromagnetic field studies? The "cell sensor" was invented as a device to be used to monitor cell phone radiation hazards. Was it invented for use in paranormal studies? No. How about the K-2 meter? Same story applies. It was invented to detect strong electromagnetic fields from large appliances, electrical wiring, etc. The T.A.P.S. team used it as an "electronic Ouija board" and the ghost hunting world went bonkers for it -- although we all know the the use of Ouija boards in paranormal investigating is not appreciated or encouraged when trying to be "credible". Think about that statement and come to a realization that what some people do today is "backward thinking" and not "forward thinking". If T.A.P.S. carried out the use of a Ouija board on a TV investigation, they would be ridiculed around the globe. Yet they use an electronic gadget to perform the same function and the world applauds them.
Go figure.

Ladies and gentlemen, we live beyond the Golden Age of investigating. What our modern devices do is simply get in the way of the human mind. Each of us has the ability to sit in a room with several strangers and create a spirit of harmony - or a spirit of discomfort between the members present. This, my friends, is called 'telepathy' and we ALL have this power to use our minds to feel, create, and experience the paranormal entities amongst us all. Can an EMF meter or thermal imaging camera cause you to experience "chills" up your spine? Not really. The readings may cause you to feel a hightened sense of fear. However, without the device in hand, would you have felt the fear, regardless? Have you seen a ghost without holding a gizmo in your hand? Have you heard voices, or unexplained sounds, without relying on devices to find these occurrences? Surely, you could agree that the human mind is the "ultimate" detection device for paranormal investigating. It doesn't require batteries, is always ON, and needs no lights or sounds. It works to give readings in an instant and requires no instruction manual. It has not shelf life. It isn't a fad device used for a period of years and found on eBay for sale. Tune your mind. Get a feel for what is around you when investigating. Free your hands and backpacks of clutter. You may find yourself being more aware of your surroundings at the same time.

We have all read books on ghost hunting. Most of the good ones have been written in years past. These authours and investigators never used many devices to conduct their investigations. Cameras and tape recorders were used. Not much more than that. When you look for ghost photos, chances are that you find the classics on display; the body on the staircase, the face in the corner of the photograph, etc. You see nothing from modern ghost hunters. Why is this? Simply stated, because WE are a "dime a dozen". Modern ghost hunters, paranormal investigators, mediums, psychics, etc. are EVERYWHERE today! What WE DO is nothing spectacular. There is nothing incredible about our educations. Modern ghost hunters simply carry more SHIT to the clients homes and spout off bits and pieces of "online quotations" that we retain in the 10% of the human mind that we continue to utilize in our lives. We rely upon advancements in technology to make us look "credible" in the field. Why? Because what people see on TV is what they have come to EXPECT from a team of ghost hunters who come to visit. I have, personally, declined invitations to investigate homes for a few clients. Why? Because I'm not "Randy The Entertainer" who stops by to amuse the family and neighbors. If you want an investigation, I help. If you seem to want someone to stop by and listen to your crazy bullshit tales and WATCH me work on finding shit in your house, forget it. I investigate activity for my own research - NOT to entertain. If you have purchased a million dollars worth of electronic equipment and enjoy being "Mr. Gizmo", or AS SEEN ON TV PARANORMAL DUDE, enjoy your life out there. You won't get much done to make it into the next series of books that your great-grandchildren will read. However, you might be on the next fly-by-night TV airing of the ABC FAMILY Halloween special.

In a nutshell, what our ancestors and forefathers did for the research has not been surpassed. Not yet. What they did has been written about for ages. We study, amuse ourselves and walk into the night with spectacular passion for this research. Then, we arm ourselves with plastic junk - devices never used by those before us - and we become bored to death. We go broke in the process. Our teams complain of needing money to cover expenses? To cover WHAT exactly? The passion to purchase. Purchase items to assist in detecting what the lazy brain refuses to see, hear or feel. Save a buck, or two, and get your head in tune with history. Tune in with what surrounds you. Leave the junk at home. Sell it on eBay, if you choose to do so. Let another sucker buy into the mythical world of ghost hunting. As for me, I'll keep my camera handy for whenever I SEE something. Then, just maybe, I can get something published in print that someone will enjoy far ahead in the future.

This is a new season for amateur ghost hunters. It is now 2009 and it has been 5 years since our televisions were bombarded with Ghost Hunters and the hi-tech gadgetry we now know is useless. It is quite simple to become a paranormal investigator today - and be CREDIBLE while learning it all.

Everyone who is new to this research seems to write to me in a kind manner by email. They ask the same questions which I never mind answering! However, it's time for a new posting on the subject of "how-to be a ghost hunter", and 2009 is a great time to learn.

For starters, you'll need ONE thing most of all; a desire to learn what the hell you are doing when you venture out into the dark! Take your "knowledge" and throw it in the "FILE 13". When you first go out on a ghost hunt, you will see things that aren't there. You will hear things you cannot explain. You will get SPOOKED. Get a grip on this fact and MAINTAIN your concentration by RELAXING. The more you know about your camera and recording equipment, the better off you will be out there. KNOW your camera in the dark! Learn to use it without looking at it. Don't rely on the need of a flashlight to use your equipment.

When you finally think you have some activity, be still. Be quiet. Do not permit your friends to lose composure. IF you have friends with you, don't yell at them for screwing up your evidence or chances at getting any of it on film or tape. Just learn from your experiences - and leave them HOME next time you go out. No matter how they beg, blow 'em off. Some people simply love to be scared. Don't be their "amusement ride". You'll just end up miserable and without evidence while THEY get to laugh it up later on.

If you are wanting to purchase some true equipment, here's the facts: No one NEEDS a box full of gadgets to find ghosts! You WILL need SOMETHING to gather evidence though. It all starts with preparation. PLAN an outing and determine if it is safe to be there. Get permission if you need to. Take the following mandatory items:

1. Camera (any type) - a camera captures images. I like film. However, anything from a Polaroid to a digital will do.
2. Recording device (capture EVP on cassette or digital) - I LIKE TAPE!
3. Flashlights - more than one is necessary for a group!
4. BATTERIES!!! Take spares for EVERYTHING! You'll learn this!
5. Anything else is OPTIONAL. PERIOD!

I think that it's time some of the TV networks who air shows such as "Ghost Hunters" (TAPS show), "Paranormal State" and other programs start to look into saving money as many other big companies have already done. Today, Obama stated that the lost jobs in this country which had been outsourced overseas won't be coming back because we wouldn't even WANT THE JOBS to come back - due to low wages, etc.

Why don't we take those people from overseas who are into paranormal research and bring them over to the USA? We could grant them citizenship, offer them free housing and food, give them the latest technologies to use in the field - and let them work for NOTHING to entertain all of us! Wouldn't that make good sense? We could have new faces on TV doing the paranormal "thing" and we could utilize closed captioning so we could understand what they say, too!

I'm tired of assholes who leave their "anonymous" postings on this site. They babble on about TAPS and other shit - yet they lack the intestinal fortitude necessary to leave their own names behind in the process.

T.A.P.S TV show, "Ghost Hunters", is a joke. I don't want to be on TV OR make money at ghost hunting as a way of life. Paranormal research is a HOBBY of mine. READ that AGAIN, ANONYMOUS ONES; HOBBY. Anyone who thinks they can make a living as a ghost hunter is in for a shock; You can't do it and remain CREDIBLE.

Can a child make a ghost less active?

It has been a little more than a month since I moved into my 1941-built home. Since our arrival, the activity in the home has subsided a bit. I'm just curious if it's possible that a ghost could become annoyed with a noisy child's presence and decide to leave or go elsewhere.

It would seem quite natural for a ghost to leave when a noisy child is running about. After all, if you could leave, wouldn't you do so? Any thoughts?

I'm Questioning Everything About Investigating

Last night my fellow ghost hunter and I went to Gettysburg for some outdoor investigating. What happened during the outing changed everything about the ways in which we think.

We arrived at the Gettysburg Battlefield around 6pm and did a little bit of driving throughout the area. We made a few stops to talk to other ghost hunters, made some good conversation, and found a spot that we had decided to conquer later in the evening, at dusk. We went for a bite to eat and made our way back to our spot at 8:26pm.

At this stage, the sun was going down rapidly and we began to take some pictures of the area before the light faded to black. This proved to be a good idea later on since the area became blanketed in darkness - which made it virtually impossible to capture anything after sunset. The moonlight was non-existent and a camera flash was useless. I used special settings to attempt to capture natural lighting, but that was completely in vain due to the pitch black environment.

We began to hear noises in the woods nearby. These noises sounded,at first,like single drumbeats. They would be present for about 30 seconds at a time,then fade away. As the night progressed, these noises returned. They were getting closer. The drumbeats were now accompanied by voices, 'whooping noises', and later on, musket rounds being fired. There were even the sounds of cannon fire. It was incredible.

Cars would pass by our site every few minutes. The only people in the park after dark were obviously up to the same tasks as we were. I stopped a car with 3 guys in ti and quickly asked them if they had been hearing drums. (This was early - before the sounds of muskets,voices,cannons,etc). They told us that they had been driving around to find where these noises were coming from - but there was nothing going on in the park - no reenactments, etc... AND there was NOTHING but woods in the area from which these noises were originating!

My partner and I attempted to record these sounds several times. We used 3 recording devices - 2 digital format,one analog. While I was recording the sounds on a handheld device, a visual scope (showing the recorded audio input) SHOWED the drumbeats and noises being captured. However, none of the devices we had used proved to capture ANYTHING but crickets and silence! This brings the two of us to rethinking EVP. Is white noise bullshit? Why didn't we successfully capture these obvoiusly present sounds? Many people witnessed these events with us throughout the evening and NO ONE disputed the likelihood of incredible paranormal activity being at hand.

I used software to amplify these recordings today. Nothing came from these efforts. I heard NOTHING to prove these events existed. I am not mad, insane, nor deaf.

Is it possible that what we hear from EVP is just imaginable things and not paranormal? Is it possible that what we DO HEAR in the present just isn't meant to be captured on recordings? Is this the same with photographs,too?

Bottom line, we're going back there and we're taking the 'big guns' on our hunt. Stay tuned.

A classic piece of 80's horror: Superstition

One of my treasured VHS items is an 80's movie titled "Superstition". It is a tale based upon the old house by the dark pond. The intro segment to this classic is typical of the old-style horror flicks we've all grown to love. One of the better and more memorable scenes is one in which a blade from a rotary saw lunges through the chest of a priest. The accident is caused by a passing ghost. Too cool, huh? I read the beginning of the Hans Holzer book "The Ghost Hunter" last night before going to bed. I always love reading his books because they offer such a serious perspective on "ghost hunting". One of his big beliefs is that he refuses to go on an investigation without the assistance of a psychic medium. Holzer believes it is a waste of time to go without the aid of such. He is also (like me) a believer in the fact that it takes mediumistic abilities for one to be able to see ghosts. Most ordinary people cannot see spirits. I, personally, believe that one has to be able to tune in to certain "higher frequencies" (of mind and spirit) in order to experience visual paranormal experiences.

Religions and Confused Believers

There are many people who believe in ghosts from every walk of life and every religious background. There are Christians,Pagans,Wiccans,Witches,etc... you name it! I find it odd in a way, but that's a personal thing. If one believes in ghosts, I would assume that same person believes in life after death. Can we agree on this?

For one to believe in ghosts - and accept the fact that there is, indeed, life after death - wouldn't that make that same person a Christian? Allow me to elaborate, as ignorant as I may seem...

Some people believe in new age beliefs such as reincarnation. For reincarnation to be true, one could not dwell on the earth in spirit form. That soul would immediately be 'reincarnated' into a new life form after death. So, how could a new age follower believe in ghosts?

Again, if the new age follower honestly believed in ghosts, then that person would be subject to ridicule due to the fact that reincarnation (as a new age belief) would be invalid, or falsified by their belief in ghosts. If one believes in ghosts, wouldn't that person also be somewhat of a Christian as well? Only Christianity tells us that we have ONE life and ONE death. Reincarnation states that life within our bodies just goes on and on until we reach perfection in our souls. I find it strange that so many ghost enthusiasts come from so many various religious backgrounds.

Maybe there are people who simply think it's "cool" to be different. I am a Christian - and I approve this message.

For numerous years I have been investigating sources of paranormal activity. I watched a movie today that made me think a little about taking the next step in my life's journey. Since I and many others reading this article can totally agree that there IS life after death, why must we continue to "investigate" it? We KNOW that life exists beyond this world we share. Since this must be true, what do we do with our "paranormal investigating time" from this day forward? Shall we take the time allotted to share beliefs with others in some religious ways? Should we simply go about in our daily lives and act as if we know of nothing of the sort?

I would think that many of us who believe in ghosts would be more inclined to tell others that we CAME from some place - and we are GOING to some place. Would it be wise to prepare ourselves for a safe trip? Should we prepare ourselves at all?

As an example, the priest who knows the rites of exorcism isn't usually in search of persons to perform his rituals upon. He is called upon when needed. In turn, the true paranormal investigator no longer needs to look for ghosts - because he believes that they already exist. A priest is called to perform an exorcism when he is needed to do so. He is ready to battle the forces of evil when actions are required of him. He doesn't question whether evil exists. He knows it is there - and is armed and ready for battle when the time comes to do so.

Are you ready for what lies ahead? Would you like to spend the rest of your days merely questioning things?

I saw an ectoplasmic mist last Saturday night and actually captured it on camera. My ghost hunting partner captured another one during the next few minutes. It would be great to get a full apparition on camera - but who died and left me as the chosen one? I could spend my whole life trying to get such a photograph. Who would change their life because of my research and my photos? Who would be any better for it? Would I know more about the afterlife later on - than that which I believe today? No.

A few weeks ago, I was looking for some new houses to investigate. I ran across a story or two about a house in my area that was supposedly haunted. Rumor has it that a woman hung herself in this house in the early part of the 20th century. Her body wasn't found for at least a week after her demise.

It is also believed she haunts this house and property. Stories have told about figures moving about in the house, unexplainable noises,etc....WELL, it had to be checked out,right?

Last night my partner and I made the short trip and found the property with little effort. The house is shrouded in trees which makes it hard to see from the main road. Once we got to the house, it appeared to be in poor condition. The foundation had severe deterioration. It seemed that the entire first floor had disappeared and the second floor was on the ground level - resting on the foundation itself. It is such an old house, it could have been that the small doorways looked like windows to me, who knows... We couldn't go inside due to extreme decay of the structure. It looked unsafe all over. The back of the house showed extreme damage due to a tree falling onto the rooftop and caving in most of the upper level.

Is it haunted? No, not likely. My recorder got nothing for EVP and our cameras showed nothing after a complete analysis of everything we tried. Some places just LOOK haunted and this one isn't showing any activity at this time. Cheers!

The Way It Used To Be Is The Way It SHOULD Be!

I caught myself listening to some music on the radio a while ago - old stuff from the days when I was a kid. It reminded me of my childhood,my old neighborhood,my younger parents,and Halloween. Things just aren't the same as they once were. In the old days (the seventies),Halloween was celebrated by kids dressing in scary costumes. Boys were monsters and girls were usually witches. Every girl had a black pointed hat and boys loved Frankenstein,Dracula,and the The Wolfman. Count Gore's Creature Feature was on TV every Saturday night - showing a black and white horror movie. WBFF TV 45 in Baltimore had their own horror host each Saturday night,too. Times have really changed...

Today,kids aren't allowed to wear scary costumes to school because of the fucking pussies at the school board. Halloween USED to be celebrated ON October 31st when I was a kid - but NOW cities have Trick-or-Treat nights on scheduled days of late October. Why don't we just celebrate Christmas on December 18th, you idiots! OH, we can celebrate Halloween on any given weeknight - but CHRISTMAS is always on the 25th of December? It doesn't make sense!

Have you ever watched "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" in recent years? I have a 20-month old son. I let him watch it every day lately. It shocks me that kids USED TO make their own costumes (sheet with 2 holes for a ghost costume) and Trick-or-Treat bags. Nowadays, kids HAVE TO HAVE some stupid store-bought COSTUME (not mask, a full-blown outfit for 50.00 or more) and store-bought candy totes. People don't even hand out candy on "Trick-or-Treat" night anymore! The typical neighborhood has the "porch light rule" - and most lights aren't even on when kids roam around with their expensive costumes on!

What ever happened to playing a TRICK when the bastards didn't give out candy on Halloween night? Kids aren't taught to play tricks anymore - and adults don't expect the kids to even do it! Halloween has gone to hell over the years. If you have kids of your own, show them how to be scary,how to play tricks,how to make a homemade candy bag with a brown paper sack and a box of crayons or markers. Tell your kids GHOST STORIES! Make them watch a REAL HORROR MOVIE (not that SAW bullshit)!

Before you know it, everyone will be out shopping for the next trashed holiday - Christmas!

Rites of Initiation

There are times when you will find that someone wishes to join your ghost hunting group. It's always great to find new help - especially when they provide talents you may not have in your group at the present time. However, gaining the assistance of a new ghost hunter for your group isn't always worthwhile.

I like to test the newcomers to our group. At first, I will offer to take these newcomers out on a few simple ghost hunting trips. If they show interest for awhile, then I proceed to offer an initiation trip. It is important to test the mindset of a new ghost hunter by allowing them to demonstrate their fearlessness on an outing. When someone agrees to my offer of initiation, I get with my partner and co-founder of my group to choose a course of action. We want to test the newcomer and make sure they can handle being alone during a private investigation. Those who cannot handle our "fear test" are told to no longer proceed with our group. We do not want "fraidy-cats" coming along on the private investigations because they have the ability to ruin our work and embarrass the work of our group altogether. Someone working alone in fear will make public claims (and to the homeowners) of things they see or hear that are quite simply bullshit claims. Fear makes people hear and see things that are almost on the level of hallucinations.

My advice to you: test your group members. If they are fearful, weak individuals - think of the damage they can do. Can this person ruin an investigation? Is it possible that they merely come along for entertainment purposes only? Are they a major contributor to the longevity of your group? You get the point...

Initiate! Don't let wimps call themselves ghost hunters! Cheers!

...because I have decided to begin a mass boycott on paranormal television shows. If people continue to watch these stupid programs, they will continue to air. If they continue to be aired, the field of ghost hunting will continue to suffer.

When I started ghost hunting in 1999, the techniques and attitudes abroad were FRESH and COOPERATIVE! Today the field is full of skeptics and people with "know-it-all" attitudes. Regardless of how some think I behave, I am NOT a know-it-all type! The last thing I wish to do is behave like some jack-ass fool who thinks I know everything about ghost hunting. There are so many techniques I only WISH that I possessed the skills to utilize in the field. I recently became an ordained minister. This CLERGY membership allows me to confront demons and other evil spirits where others cannot.

If you watch Ghost Hunters, please join me in boycotting the show. My friend Brian (who works with me as co-founder of CPR) left the show behind well over a year ago. I should have done the same! When contemplating the differences in the people and techniques used for paranormal investigating, I came upon some serious thoughts today. I am going to make an attempt at explaining what I am thinking about...

There are many people who are interested in ghosts and hauntings. Some of these people are ghost hunters. The term ghost hunter offends some people. They feel they are not ghost hunters but paranormal investigators. This is ridiculous. Let me offer an analogy, if I may. For example: a deer will not walk up to a man holding a rifle. A deer is not NEARLY as intelligent as a human being (or ghost - who was once a living person). Yet a deer knows that a man holding a rifle is hunting. A ghost knows that a person holding electronic equipment is not there for merely no reason at all.

A man who owns a rifle knows that deer exist. He believes in deer as living creatures. He knows that they are in the woods and he HUNTS them with his rifle. He is aware of how to use the rifle. He cleans it, purchases ammunition, and heads to the woods during the right time. The deer hunter has never been referred to as a deer investigator. Game hunters (and everyone else) know that deer actually exist. They believe they exist and actually hunt them. They realize that actually bagging one is sometimes hard to do (and a matter of luck in some areas), but they do so - and have done this for centuries. No deer hunter is out to call himself anything but a deer hunter when he hits the woods. He is proud to be a deer hunter. He believes that he knows where to find deer and goes to do the job. Although deer hunters seek to kill warm bodied animals, I don't think they use thermal imaging cameras to find deer...

A ghost hunter is a ghost hunter.

Some people believe in God. There are those who do not have faith in God and do not believe in Him. Both types of people are known to be ghost hunters. The odd thing that crosses my mind is WHY? If someone is a believer in God, then that person obviously believes in the existence of the soul. Therefore, the religious person must believe in ghosts for good reason. This type of ghost hunter is one who is out to have fun in the field. They aren't usually trying to be a scientific paranormal investigator. Instead they are trying to hunt down ghosts for fun and thrills. Some also use the evidence found to prove religious beliefs to non-believers. This is a long story - but worth it for the religious ghost hunter.

The ghost hunters who do not believe in God (atheists and agnostics) are usually the type to want to be called paranormal investigators. Why? I think this is because they are trying to PROVE that ghosts exist. They don't believe in God (or much of anything else in a spiritual realm) - so they prefer to act as would be scientists. Or something like that...go figure! Isn't this stupid?

Science cannot prove that GOD exists. Science cannot prove ghosts exist. Personal beliefs are all that matter. If you believe in ghosts, that's fine. If you don't believe in ghosts, chances are that you never will. If you believe in God, you found Him through some personal thoughts and soul-searching time. If you don't believe in God, chances are that you never will. NO ONE can prove ghosts - and no one can PROVE the existence of God.

Today, there are many great software applications for graphic design (I'm bringing this up for a reason, so bear with me). Have you seen the old film camera trick where a person creates a ghost photo by using double-exposure techniques? If you haven't heard of this trick, let me explain how it works. You can use a basic 35mm camera to take a photo of a background area. THEN you use the same slide (negative frame on roll) to take another picture over top of the first. You could have someone step into the area and take a photo (again) - and when this is developed and printed, it looks like a photo of a ghost! WOW! What a deceptive trick! I've done this myself, just for fun. It really works and can fool lots of people. Today, we can do this with digital camera images by using any basic image manipulation program. By taking a photo of a street (for example) and taking ANOTHER photo of the same area (use tripod) with a person in the area, you can simply overlap the images on your computer. You then take the second image (with person in it) and make it nearly transparent during the overlap. WALLA! You got your fake ghost image! I thought of this trick today and it really discouraged me from continuing this work. If you can fake a ghost photo and present it as authentic, why bother being a ghost hunter? The whole point is to PROVE ghosts exist,right? Well, if no one believes, what's the point in proving anything? EVERYTHING can be dismissed as fake,fraudulent,tampered with,etc...

We live in the age of trickery. Manipulation of images,audio,video - is everywhere. There is no point in attempting to prove anything. A believer believes, a non-believer is a waste of my time. Let believers believe. Let non-believers play with fire. They will only get burned in the long run...

Profitability

Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting with special effects master Tom Savini. I presented an idea to him regarding the franchising of "haunted houses" during the Halloween season. Savini had been operating his own "haunted house" in western Pennsylvania for many years - and I thought it was a good idea to expand his idea nationwide. Savini stated that his operation ceased many years ago due to it becoming "not profitable anymore". I was talking about this with my friend tonight after we went to "The Haunted Mill".

If we (as ghost hunters) were only concerned with profitability, we wouldn't be doing paranormal research. Paranormal research is not a profitable business. It's a money pit. We spend each dollar we can on equipment,gasoline,auto repairs,film,cameras,tapes,batteries,etc... and we never recoup one dollar of what we spend.

Furthermore, if profitability was the only concern of people in the world - we wouldn't believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ cannot take the time to save us because "it wouldn't be profitable". Santa Claus wouldn't deliver gifts (LOL!), people wouldn't hand out Halloween candy for Trick-or-Treat,etc....no profit in it!

Why do people only do things for profit when the act of doing something good,or memorable,is worth so much to so many? Go figure.

One big problem with the world today is this; people won't just DO good things to enrich the lives of others. Everyone breaks away from the traditions of hosting "haunted houses" because of profit and loss,regulations,and fear of lawsuits. When will our children come to know what Halloween is really about? It is up to us to teach them about the old customs and festivities when we can. Cheers!

Results from tonight's ghost hunt

Tonight I went to one of my favorite places for outdoor ghost hunting - Harpers Ferry,WV. It's a quiet and extremely historic town. It's one of those places that mysteriously draws you into itself and never lets you go.

I haven't reviewed my photos yet. I thought I would write about the topic of conversation that occurred AFTER the hunt was finished as it was far more enlightening than the "hunt" itself...

I have been looking for proof of ghosts and hauntings for many years. The primary reason I do this work isn't for money,fame, or other "fortunes". I do this work as a means of providing proof that there IS a higher power that created us. We have souls that DO live on once our bodies cease to breathe on this planet. Each time I find evidence of a ghost through a photo or audio recording, it is a tool used to help others to THINK about what we are actually trying to prove. For those that believe ghosts exist, it may be time to think about WHY you believe that they DO exist - or better yet - is paranormal investigation NOT a science, but a ways and means to show others that there is something at work we sometimes refuse to acknowledge?

I was talking with my group co-founder about life experiences and we were both using religion as a topic of concentration. We struck a common "chord" , or bond, in the course of the evening that left me feeling as if... I had a purpose in this work of investigating that I sometimes ignore. Do we randomly pursue things for no reasons? Do we do things such as "ghost hunting" because it is a calling we have been given to do? I guess I'll know for sure in the future. However, at the present, I have a dedication to pursue evidence as never before. Evidence is not so much proof of ghosts as it is - proof of God, proof that we have souls. Souls are not made through evolutionary means - but by a higher power we must recognize and submit to daily. You get my point... Cheers!

A Change In The Air

Why is the K-II EMF Meter So Popular All Of A Sudden?

Leave it to television shows such as Sci-Fi's "Ghost Hunters" to make an old item "new" again...

The Safe Range K-II meter is an EMF meter equipped with 5 lights and a thumb-controlled button/switch on the face of the unit. It was used on a recently aired episode of "Ghost Hunters" during a segment where a guest investigator asked questions of supposedly present spirits - while Grant Wilson (T.A.P.S. lead investigator) held the K-II in his hands to measure responses to the investigator's YES and NO questioning. The segment was setup to use the K-II meter to be an indicator for YES's and No's by saying that --- if the spirit was trying to answer YES to a question, the K-II would display two yellow lights. If getting a NO answer, it would display only one yellow light.

This, my friends, is where the bullshit started in the sales of the Safe Range K-II meters on the internet. I have sold EMF meters to people online (on and off as I saw fit for my schedule) for many years. I have a distributor who has long offered the K-II meter for a retail price of 39.95. I saw people selling the K-II meters on eBay for upwards of 60.00 - after the airing of the famed episode of "Ghost Hunters". I thought this was such bullshit! I decided to sell the K-II meters myself and make these customers aware of what the K-II was really worth - so I sold them for 35.00 each on eBay at the beginning of August. Here's where the real fun began...

I sold more than 20 of these meters within 2 days on a Saturday and Sunday. I had a fellow "seller" on eBay send me a notice that HE was the only worldwide distributor of the K-II meters - and if I wanted to keep from getting negative feedback on eBay, I should STOP SELLING THEM because he wasn't going to fill my distributor's orders placed for restock of the item (placed 2 weeks earlier). Well, I stopped offering them and had a "bad taste in my mouth" regarding the "jerk" distributor in ST.AUGUSTINE,FLORIDA who was ripping people off on eBay. He was selling the meters himself for inflated prices - instead of filling his orders (promised) to the companies who had been TRYING to sell his once stale product for years.

I watched the sales of the K-II meter start to slow on eBay. THEN I saw the prices fall back toward a more reasonable level. I finally received 24 K-II meters this past week. I had sold them on eBay at the beginning of August. My customers had many emails from me explaining the situations with the only distributor of the K-IIs being a selfish jackass and selling them on eBay before deciding to fill company orders. I'm glad I got them all shipped and satisfied my anxiously awaiting customers on eBay. They are the best people for being so patient!

Today, I found out that the St.Augustine,Florida distributor who was responsible for the K-II issues has raised the prices my distributor must pay to buy the K-II meters. I told my distributor that I would no longer sell the K-IIs because I wouldn't support the device OR the distributor who sells them. I have one K-II meter in my collection. I don't know why it's so in demand...it's just an EMF meter with 5 lights on it,no sound,no steady-on power switch (you have to hold the thumb button to get it to take a reading), and it's not a practical device for a ghost hunting trip. Not all ghost hunters are sensible people

I have been selling new ghost hunting meters and devices on eBay for about a month. Most of my customers have been incredibly nice. I get emails from them regularly - thanking me for low prices and fast delivery. However, there are a few who are just incredibly stupid.

For instance, a female (that's all I'm saying to describe her) won one of my auctions a few weeks ago. She was the high bidder on a new Gauss Master emf meter - she won it for $31.00 plus shipping. Instead of paying for it at the auctioned price, she bought another one from one of my eBay "Buy It Now" listings for a few dollars less. She emailed me and asked me to ignore her auction item since she already bought another one from me for about 2 dollars cheaper. I agreed to let her negligent bidding slide - but warned her politely that not every eBay seller would be so nice about letting auctioned items go unpaid. I shipped her the new Gauss Master at the lesser price and forgot about it all...she was so confusing...

Lo and behold, I received another PayPal payment from her for the meter she won through the auction in the beginning. I shipped it to her (she did pay for it, so I shipped it thinking she was making good on her eBay buying contract). Last night, she sends me "hate mail" regarding the fact that I sent her another meter and charged her for it at the price of $31.00 --- WTF?! She paid for it. I sent it. How am I the bad guy?, I'm thinking...

Well, she was pissed off at me for sending the second meter. I was trying patiently to work with her via emails - but she was hard-headed or flat out drunk (not sure which,maybe both). Sometimes, nice guys can't even help ghost hunters get low priced deals on equipment without being screwed in the process.

Tricks of the Trade

Lots of people have taken time to write to me lately. Many are newcomers to ghost hunting. They want advice on how to start, where to find places to investigate, etc...

I love it when people place their trust in me. I'm no science guy - but I know what I have learned through years of experience in this research. I am more than happy to pass on a few secrets, as best I can.

Right place,right time! My partner,Brian Barthlow of Complete Paranormal Research,says this all the time. It's the truth,too! To get that "great photo" or EVP recording, you really do have to find yourself in the right place at the right time. There is no tool, nor piece of electronic equipment, that can make things "magical" during an investigation. If you want a good photo or EVP, you have to spend time "hunting things down". I always use a fishing analogy when talking about this subject. Ghost hunting is alot like fishing - you prepare, pack your tackle box, take your bait, and approach the field with anticipation. THEN you are lucky, or not lucky. Conditions mean everything - and so do choices in "fishing spots".

Lots of youngsters and first-timers hang around the cemeteries and covered bridges in order to hone their skills. Cemeteries can rock at times - but old,covered bridges never offered much in my years of experience.

I go to cemeteries often - as I don't get people knocking at my door for private investigations every day. I like to keep "fishing", so I go to cemeteries. Which cemeteries,you ask? The older ones, quieter ones. The bigger the better. On these outings, don't trespass and DO take your equipment in a backpack! Your hands will need a break from time-to-time. Backpacks are an essential item. Briefcases work for the "pro look", but aren't an outdoor item.

I have written many articles about cameras, so check this blog for articles tagged "camera,film,digital,etc" for more about my picture taking philosophies.

Just do this - find a place where you will be safe,unbothered,and comfortable. WORK IT for at LEAST 2 hours. Don't go for 30-60 minutes or you won't get much evidence to review at home. Reviewing your evidence is HOW YOU LEARN. You will become familiar with your cameras and recording devices once you learn from your mistakes. Pay attention to what does work - and what doesn't.

I Couldn't Pass On This Investigation Opportunity

A house was recently sold in Hagerstown,MD. The current owners didn't appear to be concerned about ghosts inhabiting the place - until they started doing some remodeling this week!

Now they show concern with the possibility of spirits taking over the house. I am going to check it out with my team over the next 2 weeks. If it hadn't been for the remodeling, I would have easily passed on the offer. However, we all know what remodeling can do to agitate dormant spirits! Photography Tips for Cemetery Lurkers

I was reading a book last night about cemeteries and stumbled upon a tidbit of information that I once thought about at length many years ago. I used to go out on ghost hunting trips to a small cemetery near my home. In certain photos, I could see the images of people on the stones themselves.

It is said that when you take pictures of tombstones (grave markers), you can sometimes capture the projected images of the spirits buried there. These images are one aspect of spirit photography that is often overlooked. Most people search for apparitions, orbs, ectoplasmic mist formations, and other forms of visual evidence. However, taking daylight pictures of tombstones can be quite effective for spirit photography. The age of the granite, lichening, mold, and other factors actually help to form faces and images. Give this technique a try on your next outing. Cheers!

This movie sucked

What a disappointing movie! In a nutshell, it was so bad it gave me a migraine. In all fairness, it would have been good if Zombie had only stuck with the idea of a prequel - and not a re-imaging of the original. The first parts were fine - but when we were catapulted into the adult era of Michael Myers, the storyteller lost control. This was nothing compared to the Carpenter/Hill version of the Halloween story. I'm actually so disappointed that I will end this review now. Thumbs down --- way down.

You can obviously tell just from looking at the background image on this page that I am a fan of the original "Halloween" movie. It was - and is - the perfect movie for fans of suspense and horror. No remake of the film should exist. It is a classic that can never be duplicated. Dennis Miller left the role of comedian in order to be a part of ABC's "Monday Night Football" - and that was a failure. Rob Zombie abandoned rock music - and this movie failed,too. Leave horror to the experts. Stop fucking with the classics.

I went out on a ghost hunt last night with my partner in crime. We took my nephew along to train him a little more. We visited the locally accessible Rose Hill Cemetery. This place is always active with things that cannot be explained.

While walking along the paved areas of the cemetery, all three of us were seeing and hearing some unexplainable activity. There were various sightings; black orbs,shadows,mist formations,etc. At one point, I even offered a freshly lit cigarette to the spirits by placing it atop a tombstone for several seconds. I verbally invited the spirits to take a puff by the time I finished counting to ten. Within seconds, the cigarette was illuminating brightly as if someone were puffing away on it. It happened only three times (cherry lit up and dimmed three times). At one point during the investigation, I saw something that looked like a transparent gray butterfly or moth. Once I got home and reviewed my photos, I found the following photo. Take a look at the tree. What is that? This was not captured in the area in which I saw the "butterfly/moth" thing. Passing on potential paranormal investigations?

I was contacted by someone a few weeks ago who had an incredible story. This person claimed that the house they were currently living in was haunted by several spirits. I was given many details about the family residing in the home. After careful listening and questioning, I decided to pass on the opportunity to conduct an investigation of the home.

Why would a paranormal investigator do such a thing,you ask? For me,the answer is simple. I was given so much information about the history of the house that I did some background research on the property. I found the home had one owner since the 1950's. The current owner claimed to see all sorts of ghosts from all sorts of time periods. Along with those claims,the owner was really believing that the house IS haunted! So,what can a paranormal investigator do in this case? Simple - ask "What do you want me to do for you?" That's what I did. The response I received was one of the "Tell me who the ghosts are and help me get rid of them" nature. Well, I'm not a "ghost remover" and I don't practice exorcisms,demonology,or other techniques. I simply try to PROVE hauntings exist. This person didn't need anyone to convince them - they wanted attention,publicity,etc...and THIS is where THIS FIELD of RESEARCH has FAILED in the past several years!

Wouldn't it be appropriate to let the excited believers have their "haunted homes" and not acknowledge them with multitudes of "free investigations" as most groups do today? Why take your time and spend it encouraging whackos that they have/do not have a haunting - when they are gonna believe WHAT they already do in the first place?

Sometimes,it's best to let people have their beliefs and not get involved. It doesn't help to get into "pissing contests" with whacky homeowners when you don't find evidence of any hauntings. Be wise and work smart. Cheers!

Energy

Most people agree that spirits require energy in order to manifest themselves. However, no one has really determined the sources of energy that they require in order to manifest. It has been my experience (during many investigations) that the energy that spirits consume does not come from batteries or electricity - but from us humans.

I have actually been on several investigations that have left me physically drained. Others who were present at the time felt the same. Another thing I have noticed is that the "higher" or more pumped up I am at the start of any investigation, the better the results. I prefer alot of Coca-Cola (or JOLT) before any ghost hunt.

Next time you venture out on any investigation, try to test this theory of mine. See what you think. Cheers!

Zooming In On Camera Usage

Many ghost hunters and paranormal investigators have digital cameras AND film cameras. I prefer film for my work but I am an active digital camera carrier.

When taking random pictures in the field, most of us are at work in dark areas. In regard to the operation of the digital cameras, I would like to offer this advice; do not have ZOOM on when taking paranormal photos. The digital zoom features tend to "pixelate" your photos - making them look "unclear and nasty".

With film cameras, you can zoom all you want. With optical zoom on modern digital cameras, you can zoom on objects,too. However, using any zoom feature on a digital camera will suck the life right out of your batteries. I just thought I'd add these tips for anyone new to the field of "ghost hunting" before you waste a trip taking ugly photos...and using batteries like crazy.

Ghost Hunting as a Pro: The REAL History of the T.A.P.S. website

I just wondered how long T.A.P.S. had really been around... I found their website history here and thought you'd want to see it. 2001 was their first year online.

According to Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson was hired as the webmaster for the group. They eventually became friends and had paranormal beliefs that were common. If this is true, Grant would have joined T.A.P.S. in 2001 (or later) as an investigator. The TV show first aired in 2004. That would have made Grant Wilson a lead investigator for T.A.P.S. (in 2004) with 3 years of experience in the group. How's that for success!

I thought this tidbit of information would be inspirational to those who aspire to reach great heights as "Ghost Hunters". You saw it here first! Cheers!
